She came to us after being left chained outside last January, and she was in bad shape. She'd already had a litter of pups, while only a pup herself. She weighed only 79 pounds, and she had multiple infections and severe happy tail.
She received treatment at the vet's for over a month before she was well enough to come home. During that time, she had surgery to remove a growth in her mouth, and had her spay surgery at the same time. The growth was benign, but she then had a reaction to her sutures, and required a second surgery. Also, despite valiant efforts by our vet to save the end of her tail, the happy tail was just too severe, and she had to have the end amputated. But during all of this, she maintained her happy, playful disposition. And as she got healthy, the "puppy" in her began to really come out! She's curious about everything, and is happy to meet everyone. And she's now found the perfect home, part of an active family, with 2- and 4-legged playmates. We always have Danes just waiting for their perfect homes – you can see their pictures and descriptions here! The WV Chapter - - In ShortMAGDRL rescues Great Danes from a variety of situations. We hold regular events - check out our Calendar for upcoming dates and locations. Here is one of our boys (the lap-sitter) about to travel to his “Forever Home” with his new owner/friends. Also shown are his foster home hostess, Audrey, and her own Dane, Mirembe. Volunteers help out in a number of ways. Here are two with their Dane at a money-raising event at PetSmart last Christmas. Santa looks tired but Mirembe seems ready for more! This is the November 8, 2014 edition of the WV-MAGDRL Web Site.Rewards of Fostering: All expenses may be tax deductible, rescue pays for all veterinary costs for the foster Dane, it's a temporary situation AND without foster homes, we cannot help homeless Danes. Since we do not operate a shelter, we rely solely on individual foster homes and without enough families to foster, we simply cannot continue our rescue mission. Each time someone agrees to foster, another Dane is saved and given a second chance at having a wonderful life.Since 2006, Macy's Shop For A Cause Event has partnered with nonprofit organizations nationwide to raise more than $47 million for their ongoing charitable efforts.
